As a structural engineer with a focus on bridges, Sam is a natural problem solver with a niche in long-span, steel-girder bridge design. He leads design teams with a collaborative style.
While Sam has served as engineer-of-record on numerous projects, he finds complex bridge projects most fulfilling. Two of his signature projects include the 560-foot steel truss bridge on US 60 over the Green River in Kentucky and South Dakota’s gateway to the capital bridge on US 14 over the Missouri River. Both enabled him to be involved in every project phase from preliminary design through construction as he coordinated with the DOTs and stakeholders to move the projects forward.
The son of military parents, Sam was born in Germany and once sailed across the Atlantic on a Coast Guard vessel, cementing his love of sailing. Married with three daughters, Sam and his family enjoy playing soccer, board games, and hope to retire with a sailboat someday.
