Building things has been a lifelong passion for Murray. He initially considered becoming a naval architect, beginning with a civil engineering degree. But upon entering the engineering profession, he had the opportunity to work for two renowned bridge engineering pioneers. He took that job, which had a lasting impact—he became hooked on bridge design and construction.
Whether designing a bridge replacement, a bridge rehabilitation project, or engineering an entirely new bridge, Murray loves the legacy that bridges provide their communities. He knows the bridges he helps design provide vital connections for their communities, become landmarks—even icons—and will last for a century or more.
Outside of work, Murray tends to his large garden and orchard, which helps provide food for his family throughout the year. He also creates woodworking projects using lumber from his own sawmill. And he is always ready to help his adult children with their home renovation projects.
