As a senior consultant, Gary has more than 30 years’ experience in spill response, Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA), wetland ecology, and habitat restoration. Drawing on his spill response and NRDA experience in more than 18 states and provinces from coast to coast, he’s provided technical support for habitat injury assessment, restoration, and creation projects in conjunction with NRDAs.
Gary’s role includes applying Habitat Equivalency Analysis (HEA) to estimate the amount of restoration sufficient to offset ecological damages, evaluating restoration alternatives, developing preliminary restoration designs, and estimating the cost of restoration alternatives. He’s also been a first responder to oil spills where he provides expertise in damage assessment and injury documentation, particularly to shoreline and wetland habitats. Prior to becoming a consultant, he taught classes in plant ecology, field methods in ecology, and botany at Binghamton University.
During his spare time, Gary enjoys hiking, birdwatching, gardening, and landscaping with native plants.
