Maria learned about the mining industry earlier than most. Growing up in Peru, where the country’s economy depends heavily on the exports of mining, she was made aware of its importance at a young age.
Maria has made huge strides in her career since her arrival at Stantec. She recently passed the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam, earning her official PE license and moving from the role of engineer in training to mining engineer. As a mining engineer, Maria is responsible for mine design and production scheduling. One of her most notable projects involved her working on site in Tennessee for four months to help a client with their long-term mine planning. As she continues to advance, she looks forward to gaining further responsibility over her projects.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys mentoring and has been a volunteer with the local Big Brothers Big Sisters program for the past two years. She also enjoys several outdoor sports, including running, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, and skiing.
