Wolfgang is a NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers, now AMPP) certified cathodic protection (CP) specialist with over 25 years of experience. Beginning his corrosion career in field engineering, he performed CP surveys and testing, moved on to project and design engineering, into engineering management, and is presently a senior technical advisor.
Recently, after site investigations on a pipeline in Sarnia, Ontario, Wolfgang and his team encountered and overcame some interesting phenomena related to severe AC corrosion—due in part to rectifier ripple and CP over-protection. This resulted in additional laboratory research, several technical papers, and an innovative mitigation system design.
Wolfgang has published several papers on AC interference mitigation and corrosion prevention and volunteered on technical committees. He’s looking forward to presenting a joint paper with Enbridge at the AMPP 2023 Corrosion Conference in Denver, Colorado. Their paper explores risks to pipelines and facilities related to the installation of adjacent solar farms and discusses CP design, monitoring, and interference mitigation strategies. In his free time, Wolfgang likes to get outside and have fun with his family—skiing, soccer, hiking, swimming, or sneaking off to the cottage.
