Animals, art, and architecture are Jay’s personal and professional passions—inspired by a lifelong love of drawing. As a zoo architect, he’s found the perfect career to meld these passions. For more than 20 years, he’s worked with clients across the US, Europe, and Asia to create enriching spaces for both animals and visitors alike.
Jay’s approach is to strive to do what's best for the animals. A LEED accredited professional, he helps zoos meet shifting standards and address climate change with sustainable solutions. Some of his favorite projects are working on master plans like the Oakland Zoo in California, where, over the last two decades, he’s helped shape the overall zoo experience as the footprint grows and evolves. Ultimately, he hopes to create spaces that educate and inspire people to want to make a difference in the natural world.
Jay’s weekends are centered around his kids and, often, their latest sporting tournaments. He’s an avid traveler who seems to be always planning the next trip with his family—next they’re hoping to visit Australia to scope out local wildlife.
