Mark believes that regardless of the type of industry you work in, the old sites are like archeology projects; often you need to figure out the historical processes and events to help solve the current problem. At Stantec, he negotiates scopes of work for site characterization and remedial actions, determines and maintains project budgets, and supervises field operations, such as drilling/boring, surface and borehole geophysics, sampling, and remedial activities. In his free time, Mark is likely to be spending time with his family at home or admiring his beer cap collection.
He is currently working on ways to detect subsurface voids in karst regions. He was chosen to speak at the National Site Assessment Conference in Boston, Massachusetts on the topic of using X-ray Fluorescence as a rapid field-screening device for delineation heavy metal contamination in soils.
