Hawke's Bay Te Matau-a-Māui
Our region’s known for its wine and views. Yet, beyond the natural beauty lies the day-to-day that goes on in any city or town. There are more than 160,000 people here, and they need to know the services they require will be available—when they get in their car, when they turn on the tap, and when they flush their toilet.
Nearly a quarter of the population across the region identify as Māori. We take cultural and heritage considerations into account when we do our work to ensure a great outcome for all. The Hastings Wastewater Treatment Plant is an example—collaborative design and effective engagement with local tangata whenua created a solution that was environmentally friendly and cost-effective. The unique configuration of treatment processes for the no-sludge solution led to a sustainability award for the team.
Our commitment to sustainability shines through in all we do, and we aim to support the environment through our charitable and volunteer efforts too. It’s all part of preserving the beautiful backdrop that we enjoy ourselves—whether it be hiking, mountain biking, fishing, swimming or surfing.
