Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has appointed two key members to its Infrastructure senior leadership team. Jim Weir has been named regional growth leader in Canada and Stan McGillis has been named infrastructure sector leader for Program and Construction Management (PMCM) in Canada. Both Weir and McGillis came to Stantec through its Morrison Hershfield acquisition earlier this year and will be integral to supporting the growth of Stantec’s Infrastructure practice in Canada.
Jim Weir—Transportation Regional Growth Leader, Canada
Weir most recently held the position of senior vice president of horizontal infrastructure at Morrison Hershfield, overseeing teams working on roads, highways, and bridges projects. In this role, Weir developed strategic partnerships with various consultants and contractors. He formed winning teams for large scale alternative delivery projects such as the Gordie Howe International Bridge Crossing, Garden City Skyway Bridge Replacement Owners Engineer, and redevelopment of the ONroute Rest Stops along Highway 401 and Highway 400 in Ontario. Based in the Greater Toronto Area, Weir will focus on developing marketing, business development, sales, and growth strategies within Stantec’s Transportation sectors throughout Canada.
Stan McGillis—Infrastructure PMCM Sector Leader, Canada
McGillis brings over 35 years of leadership experience in the program and construction management industry. Most recently, he served as the vice president of Morrison Hershfield’s Canadian Transportation Services Program. In this role, he focused on delivering innovative solutions for public and private sector clients, ensuring successful project delivery, and driving profitable growth, exceeding revenue, and business plan projections. Based in Ottawa, Ontario, McGillis will collaborate with Stantec’s global PMCM and Infrastructure leadership team on business development efforts to grow the PMCM business in Canada.
“Jim and Stan have been major players in Morrison Hershfield’s success and industry-leading culture. Both have demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and passion for excellence throughout their careers,” said Susan Walter, executive vice president of Stantec’s Infrastructure business. “We look forward to their contributions as we continue to strengthen our transportation and infrastructure business.”
Stantec acquired Morrison Hershfield, a 1,150-person engineering and management firm headquartered in Markham, Ontario, in Q1 2024. The acquisition expanded Stantec’s presence in most major Canadian markets and further strengthened its US presence in buildings engineering. The addition of Morrison Hershfield’s Horizontal Infrastructure business doubled Stantec’s transportation presence in Ontario, bolstering the firm’s bridge, highway, construction administration, program management, and inspection services in a key growth market.
