Rachel Cranford receives Rick Hutson Mentorship Award from Women in Mining Canada

Rachel Cranford, principal and operations leader of Mining, Minerals, and Metals at Stantec, has received the Rick Hutson Mentorship Award. The award was presented by Women in Mining Canada during the Mining for Diversity event at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Convention. The award is presented annually at the PDAC Convention and recognizes the recipient’s commitment to mentoring and advancing women in the Canadian mining industry.

By fostering growth and promoting opportunities within the mining industry, Rachel has prioritized supporting mining professionals throughout their career journeys. Beginning her mentorship journey, Rachel served as Chair of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Northern Gateway Branch Mining Week Committee. In addition to her role at the CIM, Rachel has been a steadfast supporter of STEM opportunities, serving as a judge at the FIRST robotics competition in North Bay since 2014.

Rachel’s mining background spans almost two decades, having worked in mine design, material handling systems, and ventilation. At Stantec, Rachel served as the Developing Professionals Group (DPG) Lead for Canada from 2018 to 2020. Under her leadership, the DPG network grew across Canada, connecting Stantec's employees in all provinces, and providing invaluable growth opportunities for early-career professionals.
