Jason Thorne and Roger Weber join Stantec’s Urban Places leadership team

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has hired seasoned planners Jason Thorne, MCIP, and Roger Weber, AICP, to join the firm’s Urban Places practice as sector leaders for Canada and the United States, respectively. These two additions expand the firm’s leading-edge capabilities in creating places and infrastructure that increase livability, equity, and sustainability in urbanizing communities.

Based in Stantec’s Toronto, Ontario, office, Thorne brings over two decades of planning and community development experience in Canada and globally. In the last decade, Thorne served as the City of Hamilton’s general manager of planning and economic development. Prior, Thorne led award winning and global initiatives as a planning consultant in the public and private sectors.

Weber joins the firm’s Washington, D.C., office from the U.S. Department of State where he served as a senior master planning and real estate consultant for America's international diplomatic footprint. Weber, whose signature projects span over 50 cities and 5 continents, has held leadership roles in both the public and private sectors, including founding the Washington, D.C. City Design Practice at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

Stantec’s Urban Places team has delivered hundreds of successful projects globally. In Buffalo, New York, the firm was the lead consultant on the Scajaquada Corridor Vision and Mobility Plan, which built community support and reimagined mobility options along an outdated expressway, enhancing equity and investment along the corridor. In Calgary, Alberta, the company worked with the city on the Future of Stephen Avenue, a new governance framework to reinvent the curb appeal of an iconic downtown street. The company also worked with the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on a new master plan to re-envision a downtown event and entertainment district as a new multifunctional city space for people and businesses to connect, celebrate, and entertain.
