Top 10 global design firm Stantec released its 2018 Sustainability Report, a comprehensive account of the Company’s sustainability-driven practices, performance, and overall footprint. Within the report, Stantec actively addresses the three critical sustainability elements: environmental, social, and governance (ESG). The firm’s Sustainability Report complies with international frameworks and complements several recognitions from leading authorities: CDP for Leadership in the Fight Against Climate Change, a Sustainable Development Goal Leadership Award from the UN Global Compact Canada Network, and Corporate Knights naming Stantec as one of their Top 50 Best Corporate Citizens in Canada.
“When I think about the future of our planet, I feel very proud to be leading Stantec—an organization with sustainability at the core of our business,” says Gord Johnston, president and chief executive officer, Stantec. “It’s the services we provide to our clients, the way we treat our people, the way we run our business, and the passion we have for serving our communities. Supporting a sustainable future is ingrained in our operations.”
Stantec’s commitment to creating sustainable communities is demonstrated by its project work across the globe, including but not limited to:
The Company boasts a number of firsts, including Canada’s first Passive House certification and zero-carbon multi-tenant office space building (Wood Innovation Research Laboratory at UNBC and Evolv1, respectively), the first Envision-verified wastewater treatment and transportation projects in North America (Grand Bend, Ontario and Low Level Road British Columbia, respectively), the first Envision-verified project in Europe (National Italian Railway), and the first closed-loop, fully integrated organics waste management system in North America (City of Calgary, Alberta Compost Facility).
One example of the firm’s commitment to sustainability—not only on behalf of clients but in their own spaces across the world—is the design of Stantec Tower, the firm’s new global headquarters in Edmonton, which is targeting LEED® Gold and Fitwel certification for the office space and exterior envelop.
