The plan will help the city create a transportation system built around residents’ needs, and support the community over the next 20 years
The City of Portland, Maine, has selected Stantec to lead the development of a comprehensive long-range transportation plan, Portland in Motion. The project will be led by Stantec’s Urban Mobility team in Boston, with local support from the Portland office. This milestone marks an important step toward creating a safer, more connected, and more sustainable mobility network for residents, workers, businesses, and visitors.
The plan will establish a citywide road map and prioritization for how people and goods move through Portland over the next 20 years, with a strong focus on multimodal access, equity, climate resilience, and economic vitality. Building on the city’s recent policy achievements, such as Portland’s Plan 2030, One Climate Future, ReCode, and the city’s work on Vision Zero and Complete Streets, the effort will provide a clear, actionable framework to guide decisions and advance local priorities, positioning the city to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.
As part of a robust public engagement program, Stantec and its partners will gather input from residents across the city, including historically underserved communities, through workshops, pop-up events, roundtables, and digital outreach.
The final plan will deliver prioritized recommendations, funding strategies, and an implementation framework to help Portland advance a people-centered transportation system that supports long-term community growth and quality of life.
