Both a design and engineering feat, the Bellwood Quarry-turned-reservoir will serve as Atlanta's emergency water source in case of another drought
Turning a century’s old quarry into one of America’s largest raw water reservoirs is no easy feat—but a truly necessary one when you look at the possibility of another devasting drought, climate variability, and a rapidly growing population. This new article from ENR shares the story of how the City of Atlanta, Stantec, and many other partners turned the Bellwood Quarry into 2.4-billion-gallon reservoir, increasing the city's drinking water supply from three days to thirty days and up to 90 days with water conservation measures.
