Delivering equity through access, by design
The Transport Access Program (TAP) is a New South Wales Government initiative delivering safe, modern, and accessible public transport infrastructure.
As the lead design consultant, we delivered options assessments and scoping designs for nine station upgrades in the Sydney Trains and intercity networks as part of the third tranche (TAP3) of works. The designs typically involved installing lifts to existing footbridges.
Varying patronage and heritage constraints on some early 20th century structures meant our project team had to deliver a unique assessment—site investigations, pedestrian and traffic analysis, contamination assessments, civil/structural design, safety in design review and value management—for each station. The team also demonstrated maturity in BIM using point cloud information to create 3D models to assist with stakeholder consultation.
Collectively, our work has capably informed the next stage of detailed design and construction with the ultimate goal to improve access to public transport for those with a disability, limited mobility, or parents with prams.
