Golden Plains Wind Farm
Golden Plains Wind Farm is the largest wind farm in the southern hemisphere. Since 2018, our team has been supporting the development of this alternative energy facility and the associated electrical infrastructure.
With construction costing $1.7 billion, our team was engaged by Westwind Energy to provide multidisciplinary consulting and design services. Our team ensured the facility was equipped with sustainable traffic infrastructure, and our Geospatial team was involved in the streamlined site location selection for the wind turbines, considering primary factors such as wind speed, population density, distance to road, and distance to transmission lines. To top it off, our Geotechnical team worked closely with the traffic and geospatial staff, collaborating to provide sound engineering advice and using modelling and analysis tools to develop a project geotechnical plan for the facility.
Once operational, the wind farm will produce enough electricity to power more than 500,000 homes and prevent more than 3.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from being emitted to the atmosphere each year. With the future supply of clean energy and reduced carbon emissions, the Golden Plains Windfarm will also benefit the local community with the establishment of a community fund to provide annual financial support of up to $228,000 a year for a range of community-based initiatives.
