Reducing barriers for everyone in the community to safely access public transport
Providing public transport that is accessible to everyone in our community has been the guiding principle for Queensland Rail’s Station Accessibility Upgrade Program.
Queensland Rail is committed to providing accessible rail services consistent with the objectives of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA), Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 (Transport Standards), and Disability (Access to Premises — Buildings) Standards 2010 (Premises Standards). For their planned accessibility upgrades to Banyo and Lindum Stations in Brisbane, Queensland Rail engaged our team to provide concept and reference designs.
Our reference designs achieved DDA and Transport Standards compliance for the stations through an ongoing program of infrastructure upgrades. These included disability accessible parking spaces, platform raising for roll-on carriage access, lift accessible footbridges, and disability-compliant ramps to connect the station to existing infrastructure. We also provided related upgrades and improvements to lighting, CCTV, customer information screens, bicycle lockers, and landscaping.
Main construction at these stations is scheduled for completion in late 2024.
