Sumari (Sumi) is a civil engineer and architectural designer, working in the water resources sector as team leader in Western Australia. Having lived in South Africa, Australia, the UK, and Ireland, she brings a keen appreciation for the wide-ranging and complex challenges facing modern designers and, more broadly, citizens of the world. Her background in research and exhibition curation informs her passion for multidisciplinary design approaches to key resilience challenges such as water and waste management, environmental conservation, and equitable development.
So far, Sumi’s biggest career highlight was presenting at the 2022 Stormwater Victoria Conference following three years in COVID-19 isolation. She thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with industry peers in person and engaging in fruitful dialogue about the direction and vision for the industry’s future.
Outside of work hours, Sumi enjoys creative activities such as cooking, painting, pottery, dance, and theatre. She also loves the outdoors and goes on hiking and free-diving adventures when she can.
