As our Principal Process Engineer and Practice Leader for Odour, Ian Evanson measures success by smell. Ian boasts an impressive suite of involvement in more than 74 projects over a 22-year career (13 with Stantec) which spans the odour control, wastewater design and gas scrubbing industries in Australia, the UK and Middle East.
Ian enjoys working in the wastewater industry. He gets a boost fixing odour problems that occur naturally with treatment plants, and improving people’s quality of life in the process.
One of Ian’s highlights was during the Oxley Wastewater Treatment Plant Project in 2006. His biggest aim was to stop the stench, and at the final community meeting Ian received the best client feedback ever—the group said they were delighted they couldn’t smell the plant anymore.
Ian has worked on some of the largest odour control facilities in the world, and reckons ‘big stuff is cool’ which might explain his proclivity for running ultra-marathons and boating the wide expanse of the waters of Sydney, the place he calls home.
