Transport Corridors
Putting sustainability at the heart of transport corridors
Across Australia, major roads increasingly divide communities. Planned on the outdated ‘predict and provide’ model, traffic corridors cater primarily to cars, leading to a never-ending cycle of expansion and congestion, only relieved by the next increase in lanes.
We want to flip the script and create sustainable corridors. Places where cycling and walking, public transport, micro-mobility, traffic, and people thrive. We begin with the fundamental question: who are we designing for and how can we serve their needs? When we do that, not only do we deliver what the community wants, we save time and money later by considering sustainability and multi-modal options early.
We’re committed to sustainability—envisioning a future where transport is more than just designing for motor vehicles, and we do this through an integrated planning and design team. Together, we’re working to build a future where our communities are vibrant, liveable, and accessible for everyone.
Placemaking strategy for inner city industrial site for the community
Since 1936, the General Motors Holden Fishermans Bend Plant was their headquarters and manufacturing site—covering 32-hectares. After operations ceased in 2017,, the Department Victoria purchased the site with the plan to transform it into a new public park. Encouraging a collaboration between industry and academia, University of Melbourne and our team were engaged to develop a creative placemaking strategy along the protected 1.2 kilometre on-road bicycle lane. We assisted the state government by providing construction supervision for a 4.7 kilometre commuter pathway. The shared path for pedestrians and cyclists is shaded, provided by two hundred trees planted along the track. Now in full operation, Belconnen Bikeway delivers worry-free and safe walking and cycling for commuters to enjoy. With four campuses in Victoria, Deakin University engaged our team to investigate how they could reduce their carbon footprint associated with people accessing and travelling between those campuses. Our findings contributed to a travel and transport strategy detailing transport management measures and potential capital costs and operational cost savings. Read MoreOur People
